Types And Advantages Of Big Bag Unloaders

Factories and warehouses recently started to utilize bulk bag unloaders to unload flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBC). The big bag unloaders come in several varieties and provide many advantages. This new technology creates many opportunities for increased productivity, but you need to use the unloader that suits your specific needs.

Types of Big Bag Unloaders

There are four main types of big bag unloaders: fork loaded big bag unloaders, half frame big bag unloaders, hoist and trolley big bag unloaders, and low headroom options.

  • Fork Loaded

Fork loaded options provide a high level of support at a manageable price by using a lifting frame and support bars. This option does not allow the ability to make adjustments quickly, so this is best when bags generally come in one consistent size.

  • Half Frame

This option is ideal for companies looking for a cheap option and high-speed operations. They must already have a beam and hoise system preset and forklifts.

  • Hoist and Trolley

Unlike for loaded options, hoist and trolley big bag unloaders don't require a forklift. These models can also handle a variety of sizes of bags. These are an expensive option, though. Some locations may require additional safety precautions.

  • Low Headroom Options

These offer a combination of the fork loaded and hoist and trolley models. There are split frame fork loaded big bag unloaders, super low draft systems, and compact fork loaded models. These options are made for low ceilings that can't fit the frames of other options.

Advantages

The bulk bag unloaders use an electric hoist and trolley system to eliminate the need for forklifts. New innovations help make these machines applicable in a variety of different settings.

New bulk bag unloaders include telescoping arms that can adjust to unload bags of a variety of different sizes. Clevis pins and safety clips are used to manipulate the size of the bag that the unloader can unload. The sizes have a wide range between 32 to 47 inches and up to 2.2 tons.

Another valuable innovation in the industry is that big bag unloaders eliminate the amount of dust produced through alternative methods. The newest models even offer a dust-free seal.

These innovations allow bulk material to be shipped and stored in larger quantities, creating a drastic increase in productivity. Previously, factories were forced to use IBC's, small bags, and Gaylord bags.

Considerations

Things to consider when buying a big bag unloader include:

  • Bag weight
  • Bag size
  • Bag design
  • Ceiling height
  • Environmental limitations
